Julia Sidorenko is a jazz pianist, composer and educator, MM alumnus of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, who became the first female pianist at the Anatoliy Krall Big Band, led by the member of UNESCO and the legend of Russian jazz history Anatoliy Kral.

Born in Komsomolsk-on-Amour (Russia) on February 27, 1996, Julia had the opportunity to meet Latin and Afro-Cuban music while having classes at the dance studio. Then at the age of 8, she was enrolled in the jazz music school in Rostov-on-Don with her major in jazz piano and minor in vocals. While studying, she first tried herself in composition, arrangement, and leading her band.

In 2017 leading her Modern Folk Jazz Collective – the band which performed original jazz music based on the Russian folk music – she became a GRAND PRIX winner of the Gnesin Jazz Competition and got the “Discovery of The Year” Award alongside with the first prize as the soloist. In a couple of days, she became a laureate of the Piano in Jazz Competition.

Both with the Academic Band and her own band Julia had been playing at the best Russian venues such as Moscow International House of Music,Zaryadye Concert Hall and many others.

In 2018 she had a great opportunity to try herself in making a live screen score for “Le Roue” by Abel Gance (1923). She took a part in the competition and got the Cinema Jazz Awards for this soundtrack that year.

The same year St. Petersburg was chosen to be the capital of the International Jazz Day led by UNESCO, Herbie Hancock, and Igor Butman. Julia`s band was selected to perform at the Mariinsky Theatre.

Same year Julia participated at the Summer Jazz Improv Workshop at the NYU (NY, USA) in July 2018 and in November she was invited by Igor Butman to take part in his Future of Jazz project where she shared the stage with Josh Evans, Kyle Benford, Makar Kashitsin and Moscow Jazz Orchestra. She made a big band arrangement of her original tune “Heart`s Whispers”, which was performed by herself together with the Igor Butman Orchestra.

Julia collaborates with both Russian and foreign jazz musicians, participating in many jazz projects with great success.

In June 2018 Julia was invited by the Russian Consulate General to visit Japan, where she played a concert as a part of the Russian Seasons.

In 2024 she presents two projects: Crimson Pie and Julia Sidorenko Trio, within each of them the musicians play original jazz music compositions, written by Julia.
